Shortly before 4pm on Sunday we were responded to a shed fire at a property on Grey St.
The fire quickly spread to some bamboo and pampus along the river bank and raced along setting alight two phoenix palm trees. The shed and the river bank were well involved in fire on arrival and the brigade quickly set to work to contain the fire. However with a steady Easterly blowing embers from the palm trees blew across the road and started a fire in Campbell Tube and also a fire on the roof of a house opposite. With the the fire having already been upgraded to a 2nd alarm even more trucks were responded with pumps arriving from; Ngatea, Paeroa, Puriri, Turua and Tapu. A number of police units also arrived to help with crowd control as there was a large crowd standing far too close to the fire and working ground. The fires were quickly contained with the only major loss being the shed and an office. With great work from the brigade and a favourable wind direction the houses beside the shed were saved from fire. There will be photos to come. Comments are closed.
